If you love playing golf, then Aberdeen is the place to visit. The city offers not only amazing golf surroundings, but there’s much more to see and do, which makes it perfect holiday destination, where the rest of the family can enjoy various activities.
Today we present 5 golf courses, which in our opinion should not be missed by any golf lover when visiting Scotland:
1. Royal Aberdeen
Founded in 1780, Royal Aberdeen is said to be the sixth oldest golf course in the world. Originally the golfers played over a public strip of land between the Don and the Dee and it was only in 1886 that the golf course was moved to its present location, the Balgownie links.
Royal Aberdeen is a traditional out and back links running along the shore of the North Sea and some players consider its first nine holes as the finest in the world.
This is an excellent links course with rich heritage, therefore if you wish to use the lounge room or dine, don’t forget your jacket and tie.
2. Murcar Links
Murcar Links Golf Course is located on a classic stretch of links land, however what makes it unique and gives the players real challenge are the huge sand dunes, crumpled fairways, whins, burns and heather. The course has definitely got a lot of natural appeal and when the weather gets windy the playing conditions can get a bit brutal, but it only makes it more interesting.
Murcar Course has got several signature holes, among which the 7th is considered the most memorable and it’s called “Serpentine”.
Although Cruden Bay was officially opened in 1899, golfers played here way back in the 18th century.
Some consider Cruden Bay a masterpiece golf course, some say it’s too quirky. Either way, this is a breathtaking place to play golf, because the designers used the original lie of the land to fantastic effect. Several holes are secluded from each other by sand dunes, giving the players feeling of intimacy. The views on the sea and beach are making each game a spectacular event.
4. Trump International Golf Links
This amazing development has only been opened in July this year. It’s spanning across approximately 500 hectares of land on the north-east coast of Aberdeenshire and can boast with the world class championship links golf course suitable for hosting major international events and a second 18-hole links golf course.
There is also an iconic hotel set amidst an array of luxury holiday homes, as well a residential village formed within the unique setting of Menie Estate. This is definitely a dream home location for all the golf lovers.
5. Hazelhead Golf Course
Hazelhead Golf Course offers three picturesque courses and a pitch and putt course. No.1 Course is definitely one of the best courses in the North East region and it’s not an easy one either. The players have to be highly skilled to omit all the gorse and woodland obstacles.
The Premier No1 Course at Hazelhead is hosting several well-know competitions on a regular basis.
