Kids go FREE at Westonbirt Arboretum – Throughout August

Young adventurers are encouraged to explore Westonbirt this summmer with free admission, hidden play areas and wildlife trails. Seven different play zones are located amongst the trees of the Old Arboretum on the Naturally Playful trail; built with Westonbirt wood felled as part of the arboretum’s tree management programme. Children can build their own explorer’s den, protect their woodland kingdom from inside tree forts, clamber over tree stump stepping stones or simply climb in or hide amongst the trees.Westonbirt Arboretum also has a special tree-inspired playground for under fives. The Exploratree experience, located next to the Courtyard Café, is designed to help develop young visitors’ play skills and understanding of trees. Children can clamber under tree roots, encounter over-sized worms and climb into a giant bird’s nest.

Cheese & Cider Festival at The Royal Oak, Prestbury – 24 – 26 August

This event began in 2002 and is equally as popular as the Royal Oak Beer Fest! Up to 22 different ciders, many of which are sourced from Gloucestershire and surrounding counties are featured. To accompany the cider, (and to soak it up!) there are platters of local cheese on offer from Charles Martell of Dymock and beyond.

Lakefest 2013 – 9 – 11 August

‘Lakefest’ is an amazing music festival at one of Gloucestershire’s top holiday destination. Back for a third year with a great line up including Ocean Colour Scene, Levellers, The Beat, Chas & Dave to name but a few. There will be arts and crafts workshops and shows, street entertainers, an amazing children’s area, watersports, 3 covered stages, a fun fair, real ales and traditional ciders, Sangers World famous Outside Stage and a market area with all sorts of weird and wonderful offerings.

Exeter Farmers Market – every Thursday

Shoppers keen on sampling Westcountry foods are able to try and buy a wide range of produce at the Exeter Farmers Market. Customers visiting the market have the opportunity to buy a delicious range of foods such as cheeses, venison, pork, lamb, beef, chicken, organic fruit & vegetables, chillies, apple juice, fish, chicken, preserves, cakes, bread, pies and much more. The Exeter Farmers Market has been established in order to give local producers of fruit, vegetables and foodstuffs, as well as a limited range of craft and products made locally with local materials, a new retail outlet that enables them to sell direct to the public. The market has become a vibrant and enjoyable place to buy and sell, giving the producer a chance to meet and talk directly to the consumer of the produce that they grow or make.

 Exeter – Fun Kitchen Cookery Workshop for Kids – 12/13/19/20 August

Get your kids to join a fun kitchen sessions to cook up a storm. The workshop will be run by an award-winning teacher, as voted by students and parents and his fantastic team of teaching professionals who bring cooking to life! Kids will be making your own lunch, creating some tasty bakes, plus grown ups will love to take home a family dish at the end of the day! Ingredients will be provided, as well as aprons, chef hats and recipe cards to take home . Sessions are open to all levels and ability so no one will be left out!
