As part of the refurbishment of Thistle Piccadilly, a new restaurant and bar was opened to Thistle guests and the general public: The House Lounge @Thistle Piccadilly

Today, we had  the pleasure of visiting Thistle Piccadilly and enjoyed lunch at the new House Lounge. Here’s what we saw, tasted, heard, and felt…

The Look

Due to it’s fantastic location at the heart of London’s West End, Thistle Piccadilly is very popular among tourists and regular visitors to London. There are very few hotels that lie in such close distance to London’s landmark attractions and major shows.

Since January this year, the hotel has gone through major refurbishment, most of which is now completed. Thistle Piccadilly  now has 82 newly refurbished standard, executive and junior suite bedrooms that have been completed a few weeks ago.

We had a chance to have a look at the junior suite room and were amazed by the window views (see below some of our snapshots) – certainly then you realise that you are in the heart of the city. It’s also the perfect spot to watch all film premieres at Leicester Square, which are happening almost weekly!

Some of the older staff members, who have been working for Thistle Piccadilly for several decades, remember the time when the hotel had very special guests. In 1963, The Beatles came to room 706 shortly after their concert at The Prince of Wales Theatre and waved at the crowds of excited fans who had gathered outside.

The House Lounge

A major highlight of Thistle Piccadilly‘s new outfit is The House Lounge. From the moment you enter the bar you’re seized by it’s unique character: it’s trendy and high-end but informal. The first item that attracted our attention was the large LCD screen in the middle of the room, showing iconic images of London.

This modern lounge bar is an ideal place to enjoy some drinks and food and with ambient sounds of Jazz, House and Lounge music and lights that change colour towards the evening creating a relaxing atmosphere. The House Lounge opens every day for drinks and food at 5pm.

NB: The House Lounge can also be hired privately for your birthday parties, receptions or networking events.

The Food

Whether you are heading to one of the West End shows and need a pre-theatre meal, or you are up for a drink or two after work, the House Lounge is the right place to go. The menu consists of Thistle’s bestsellers, which are not only delicious, but also won’t ruin your budget.

We ordered four different dishes and each of them looked like a small piece of art:

If you followed our recent series of recipe posts, you probably remember the Beef Rendang and Sea Bass and Chorizo dishes. We were really keen on trying those two, as they were Thistle Chefs’ special recommendations. There was absolutely no disappointment! The meat was tender and the Sea Bass cooked to perfection – simply a tickling experience for the taste buds.

Overall, House Lounge is a perfect spot if you want a sophisticated dinner, pre or post-theatre meal, or simply a break from the bustle of the West End after a day spent sightseeing or shopping. For more information and to book a table, please visit our website.
