Head down to the coast this weekend for two days of summer family fun in Poole! Arts and crafts, dog shows, and entertainment are all on order at the Poole Town & Country Show, 4-5 August.
Poole may be best-known for its beach and its proximity to the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site often described as a “walk through time.” This weekend however, it’s not just about the seafront. Pair your trip to the water with a visit to the Poole Town & Country Show, a two-day extravaganza of family fun at Upton Park.
The fair will be the spot for animal lovers — birds of prey flying demonstrations and heavy horse displays will be held both Saturday and Sunday. For those with a soft spot for dogs, you’re in luck. Terrier races, dog scurries and working dog demonstrations will run throughout the day, and on Sunday, it’s the big Companion Dog Show, where your pup can compete for the title of “Most Handsome Dog” or “Waggiest Tail,” just to name a few of the contests up for grabs.
While the kids are checking out the ferret races — yes, even ferrets get some time to shine — mum and dad can head to the show kitchen to taste wines and ales, or get some cooking inspiration from chef Hector Bunting. You can also shop for gifts at the arts and crafts stalls or grab a bite at the food marquees.
When you’ve had enough delicious food and cute animals (is it even possible to have enough?), take a wander around Poole to explore its historic harbour, right by our hotel, or take a short drive over to nearby Bournemouth’s Oceanarium.
