What do you love most about your job?
One of the things I enjoy most about my job is getting to meet and work with so many different people every single day. We treat every event as if it’s our own, whether it’s a wedding, corporate meeting or party, and we do our upmost to ensure each experience with Thistle exceeds expectations. From the moment a brief comes in, it’s all hands on deck to ensure it’s an absolute success from start to finish.
What do you like doing in when you’re not at work?
Sitting down to read a good novel!
Why would people choose The Portland in Manchester as their wedding venue?
Organising a wedding is such a lot of work and the choice of an appropriate venue is a huge decision. At our hotel, I make sure that we provide a completely bespoke service, which means that in every aspect of that special day, from the room layout to the wine list, food to flower arrangements, customers can choose in which way they would like it – intimate, extravagant, colourful, themed, whichever way they want it.
What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
For such a big day, customers expect it to be perfect and of course that is what we want as well. Our largest suite seats up to 220 guests for a wedding breakfast and has its own bar area, cloakrooms and dance floor. With so many guests involved, it can get quite challenging to meet everyone’s expectations but I can say that usually, my team and I exceed our customers’ expectations. Most of our guests come to me and thank me personally after the event; that is always the most rewarding part when you know that all the work and effort was worth it.
If you had the opportunity to arrange any celebrity wedding, who would you choose?
Katy Perry and Russell Brand – they’re such a quirky couple, it would be fascinating to work with them
