EAT! NewcastleGateshead, the innovative food and drink festival that has put North East produce on the map, returns this year for another fifteen days of eclectic events that serve up food in a brand new way.
Now celebrating its SEVENTH year, EAT! champions local food producers, restaurants and culinary talent in North East England through a programme of events that includes street food markets, masterclasses, community collaborations and much more to be announced later in the year.
The Festival will be taking over South Street (behind Central Station) and transforming it into Bangkok, Delhi, Naples, Rio and Brick Lane – all rolled into one! Prepare for an assault on the senses as you navigate your way down this smoky, noisy alley filled to bursting with stunning street food by some of the North East’s best restaurants and traders. Quirky, imaginative and of course delicious, EAT! proves that food festivals aren’t exclusively for connoisseurs.
Street food is paid for in tokens which can be bought in advance or at the box office for £3. This speeds up queues and means traders don’t have to handle cash, so it’s much more hygienic. Most dishes cost just 1 token so take your tastebuds for a ride and mix it up with as many different dishes as you can!
Inside the Boiler Shop, you’ll find 25 locally-brewed beers, a rolling programme of live bands and entertainment (including the ever popular Chilli Eating Contest at 4.30pm on Saturday hosted by North East chilli writer and guru Dan May), lots of places to sit and enjoy your food and drink, three themed foodie zones to explore and an exclusive programme of boutique pop-up restaurants upstairs on the mezzanine.
