This year Leicester Square is offering a brand-new experience to all visitors, with its very own Christmas market. Known as one of London’s most popular and populous entertainment areas, this Christmas brings a whole new experience to the area and as well as the brand new Central London festival there are other great entertainment opportunities in the area.

Christmas in Leicester Square

Traditional Christmas markets have taken over Leicester Square with rows of traditional wooden huts selling all manner of fabulous festive goods. Hand crafted gifts sit alongside unique festive decorations and there are also lots of food and drink possibilities. A glass of mulled wine can be found at every other stall and delicious hot snacks have both a traditional German and international feel.

The Christmas festival also brings a spectacular velvet-draped spiegeltent to the heart of Leicester Square. Within the tent the award-winning theatre and drama group La Soiree will perform (booking required). A traditional tongue in cheek variety show brings together many well-known name including The English Gents, Acantha Lang, Hamish McCann, Denis Lock and Ursula Martinez. La Soiree is a truly classic variety performance with new and exciting acts performing alongside familiar favourites.

Younger family members won’t want to miss their visit too Santa in the Grotto and just like the spiegeltent show, this can be booked in advance to avoid missing out. There is also a funfair for thrillseekers of all ages and it lifts the Christmas fun to an even higher level. The level of Christmas cheer and enchantment at Leicester Square in 2016 is bigger and better than ever before.

The festival has come from event planners and festival experts Underbelly. Known for their work at Southbank Centre and London Wonderground, they’ve turned their hand to Leicester Square and the feedback is already overwhelmingly positive.

Christmas Comedy at Leicester Square Theatre

Leicester Square Theatre attracts many comedians and entertainers. This Christmas is no different with a range of festive-themed entertainment. Take the children to see Stick Man, an all-time favourite Julia Donaldson picture book turned into a live action show. Enjoy My Big Fat Weirdos Christmas Wedding: An Alternative Comedy Pantomime and for a little satirical and political comedy don’t miss Matt Forde’s Christmas Political Party featuring Alastair Campbell and Ed Balls. The award-winning GATSBY show is also back in Leicester Square for Christmas, the theatre becoming Gatsby’s Speakeasy and bringing all the glitz and glamour of the famous novel and subsequent film to the area. There is something elegantly festive about the roaring 20s and the allure around Gatsby which makes this show a wonderful night out at Christmastime.
